Student Complaints

The state must have a process to review and appropriately act on complaints concerning the institution. What process has your institution put in place to resolve student complaints?

The school addresses student complaints internally by maintaining an open door policy: Students are encouraged to feel comfortable speaking to staff about any concerns, complaints, or issues they are experiencing. Students may also choose to submit complaints anonymously through a complaint box that is checked regularly by Student Supervisors.

The school also discloses to the students a more formal process by which they may submit complaints regarding the institution to the school's accrediting body. The process and necessary contact information are provided to students in their course catalogs.

Alex,

Wat is the best way to resolve anonymous complaints? I always found this a frustrating process.

Well it is a tough one, but if the student brings a valid complaint to our attention, the director and staff will discuss it and make adjustments in operations, silently addressing the complaint by improving our services to the students.

If the complaint is not one that the director and staff feel can or should warrant accommodation on our part, but maybe there seem to be a substantial number of students voicing a similar grievance, it might be addressed in Student Announcements (we make in-class announcements every week, which are also posted in the school and emailed to the students). In this way, the school tries to at least give the students the respect of a complete explanation of why we choose to operate in this way and why we feel a change to accommodate the request/grievance cannot be made.

It's important to us that even if we don't always oblige their every desire, students know that their voices are being heard and considered.

Alex,

Thank you for your response to the question. Making an annoucement is an excellent way of letting the student know that they are being heard.
