who is responsible

There are multiple departments that are responsible for getting our name out, but mainly we use the conventional methods...such as TV, radio, internet...
we do have newsletters, press kits and so on...

however we do not differentiate between publicity and marketing.....and that is important...

Hi Zara
There is a difference between publicity (public relations) and marketing. Also publicity is part of marketing. One way we differentiate is by looking at public relations as less costly than paid ads for example. Public relations is ongoing and has to do with building relationships with the editor of the newspaper and not the sales person there. It means getting into the community and finding one person who can get your message out to hundreds of people. It's about networking and staying in touch and providing people with information they can use to help tell your "story." Thanks, Susan

To me publicity is when you can get a media outlet (TV, News source, magazine, newspaper) to write about you (you can also submit the article.) It is generally seen as more trust worthy and less self-promoting. Marketing/Advertising is when you are buying the media channel and are 100% in control of the message.

Piper,

This is good. There are so many ways to get your name and brand visible. Sometimes it is as easy as getting start dates and open houses posted in your local newspaper calendar section
