Those Statutes, Rules, and Regulations!

What are the ways you are learning the various Florida Statutes and Rules and Regulations that regulate your activities and your institution?

I have created a section in my resource notebook that covers the statutes, rules, and regulations for the CIE. i have also created an electronic file and set up monthly reminders on my ical to check for updates

One of the ways is first printing them out , ans putting them in my Notebook that I created , and then referring to it often. I broke it up into sections and read one every 2 to 3 weeks just to update myself or I have a monyhly meeting with the owner of the school. I discuss one section a month with him.

Reading statutes, rules and regulations is always difficult. I am looking because I am an attorney. My recommendations to others is to:

1. Read the definitions FIRST
2. Review the statute and refer back to definitions frequently
3. Critically think about what you are reading and ask yourself why would the governing body create such rules and regulations

The more you read the statutues and critically think the easier this becomes. I was just at a meeting of one of the larger regulatory bodies and the statute was just materially changed. I was amazed that the individuals on the board were not fluent in the new rules and policies and required individuals to undertake certain actions do to not being fluent in the regulations. If the individuals at the educational institution had reviewed the policies before hand their application would not have been postponed.

I normally just refer to my Resource Notebook and keep checking the various websites for regulation changes and print them as they change. I check these about once a month.

Always remember that if you don't understand any of these changes, to go to your supervisor and ask them to to clarify it so you don't have any confusion about it or give out incorrect info.

It is critical to constantly check to see if any of these rules or regulations have changed. It is our responsibility to stay on top of these changes. When something does change, review it very carefully to make sure that all changes are completely understood.

We have meetings often with all department heads.

My plan is to do as instructed in the module; Consistently logging on to the website, checking for updates or changes. Also, by referring to my institution's administration for insight, as well. Otherwise, just constantly reviewing my printed copies of the Rules and Regulations.

I learn the various Florida Statutes and Rules and Regulations by practicing what's pertinent to my school.

My program specialist is very good at letting us know about changes.

Marc, another suggestion would be to check the Commission website for important updates.

Reading the various Florida Statues and Rules have helped me a great deal. I have printed them and put them in my notebook and followed the recommendations given. I also try to keep them up-dated every month going into the State website.

Aida,
The Commission website is a great resource. The postings will keep you informed and there are many informative people ready and willing to assist if you do not find what you need.

This module was very helpful. I reviewed the rules and regulations and then searched on my internal website to ensure that I could find the documents and that the required information was listed.

I have bookmarked the CIE website and added notifications into my outlook calendar to check the website monthly for updates and changes. We also randomly ask questions regarding rules and regs to the entire campus during our staff meetings.

The best resource for updated information I believe is the various websites and links in this training.

Lisette,
Also include your institution itself. Corporate policies and advertising knowledge are important as well.

I use the CIE website monthly to review any changes to regulations.

Steven,
The CIE website is filled with additional information that may assist you as well. The Commission issues meeting notices, statutory changes, newsletters and industry trends that are of interest to this sector.

Checking the CIE website rule and laws page for updates. I saved this link to my favorites for easy access.
