I think this is a good point Harold, although we should have policies for all major points of the class. The less that we define things, the more likely that gray areas can cause problems in the class.

This is the biggest issue in my opinion with online education. Can you prove the person in the class is actually doing the work? We can put in place standards and enforce them. We can use turnitin software to assist, but in the end it is simply trust.
