It helps students understand how much time they really have when they are feeling overwhelmed.

You would be surprised with what you can get done in small batches:
I then also give them a template of a weekly time management sheet that includes all of the items they need to complete for the course each week (the content varies by course, obviously, so, each one requires its own template.
