keeping personal separate

I sometimes find that relating with the students about their issues and problems outside the classroom leads to trouble and respect issues. I want to be relatable, but when does being relatable cross the line?

Students may think that because you/we are instructors our lives run smooth and that we are boring and stodgy. If we share experiences where we made serious errors in the past, their "image" of us cracks and we may lose their respect. We can discuss "their' problems, but we are not allowed to have "our" problems.

THE BEST WAY IS NOT TO INTERFERE WORK AND PERSONAL
