Inclusionary Dimension

From the video, "Participant-Centered Learning and the Case Method", Thomas J. DeLong (Professor of Management Practice, Harvard Business School) mentioned the inclusionary dimension. What strategies do you suggest we implement to make our students feel like they are "in the club" during class discussions?

I find that often when explaining a concept or a physical application I am most successful when I explain twice; once in the official, published language, and second, in essentially "street language" along with analogies to enforce key points.

Make every effort to keep that student engaged in discussion, activities, etc. and to let it be known that he/she can participate without fear of degradation or judgment.

Hi Carolyn,
I like how you get your students involved and no prejudgment/degradation is involved. Students are more likely to participate if they know if they get an answer wrong they will not be made fun of.
