Challenging student
Challenging students are getting more violent in theit attacks on faculty, talking to administrator sometimes adds more fuel to the fire.
I think using a third party to remediate conflicts may help.

If you cannot handle the conflict on your own, getting someone of higher authority is always good.

I have never had an issue I couldn't diffuse by treating the student - no matter how old - like an adult and LISTENING. Most of the time, at least in situations I've dealt with, a student realizes he or she is bringing in baggage from another area of life and letting it affect performance in the class. Also, most of these more difficult students were simply frustrated because content was challenging.
I also think that challenging students are getting more violent and abuse the faculty in a manner should not be tolerated but yet we bring those students back in the system.
