Repetion

As instructors we have daily routines and we just go through the motions. Some of the day to day tasks have certain sense of urgency because of our policies. That being said, it is always good practice to revisit the BASICS! From time to time we may have the tendency to deviate from our duties as instructors. This becomes a challenge when the deviation becomes normality and the behavior or practice is out of compliance with policy. The choices we make the behavior we exhibit most often will determine our perception. Because behavior is learned, therefore, it can be modified to take a different perspective on our daily tasks. This will have a positive effect on our student’s perception.
What modifications can you make to your daily routine to break the cycle of repetition and maintaining company policy?

Santiago, These are great thoughts and questions. On one hand, routines work great in helping us maintain efficiency and speed to task completion. On the other, sometimes we need a breakaway approach and some breakaway thinking. To answer your question about modifications to break the daily cycle, I recommend starting small. Try doing something as simple as taking a different route to work. You'll be amazed and how different the rest of the day can go with this small change.

Dr. Melissa Read

Hi, I do agree with Dr. Read, that making a small change can make a huge difference. It doesn't have to be drastic, but can be done over time. I change sometimes one fo my routine schedules that I do with my students in a 4 week course, so we will not all fall in the path of boredom.
