How do you handle students who are perpetually late with their work

It is diffcult to verify the legitimacy of their reasons or excuses without the benefit of body language and tone of voice.  Online documentation can be forged easily.  It is time consuming the verify the documents if the student is from another state or another country,

Seems to me ou are talking more about online classes rather than a flipped classroom situation.  Teh students should come prepared form the lectures to be ready to have discussions

Mostly I try to motivate students to finish their next assignments "work" on time by relating the assignment to real life job or task. If you are late finishing your task for the project you will loose your job.

Late submissions are definitely a problem Mayuresh. I think you need to be clear that your job is to teach and also assess the learning objectives. If a student does not provide you with a method to assess their mastery of the learning objectives, then late-excuse or not, they cannot get a good grade.

I know you already know this, but I will re-state this at the risk of sounding dumb - When it comes to accepting late submissions, I would go with the strict letter of the rules in the catalog or other student manual for your school. Never give a student preference over another student by skipping the rules. It may look like they "love you" for doing that, but they will put you down behind your back, tell everyone of your favoratism, and anger the hardworking students who have just had the value of their diploma lowered.

I have a different vierw on late work for my  online classes . We have 5 week modules for out classes and I usually let students go back to week one and resubmit any assisgnment that they did not receive full credit for. they can add to discussions and correct assignments but cannot retake quizzes. I look at it as they learn from their mistakes and when they have to go back and correct an answer it helps with comprehension of the work. Does anyone else do this?
