Setting the bar

I give them a relatively simple problem to solve, but I ask them to find all possibilities to the problem.By using group discussions and problem solving. I find that even the shy student will contribute. And it gives me a chance to praise their efforts...

Dont always use simmple problems, you have to raise the bar and make the students think outside the box. This builds confidence and prepares the student for what is to come.

Better yet, use material that leads to them raising the bar for you as they work through your basic information.Just a thought.TK
