planning

always be prepared for the unplanned

Preparation is a big part of my teaching style. I like to arrive early with all materials in hand.

I totally agree. Just like in life, we as instructors should expect the unexpected. We won't always get it right every single time. Sometimes life can indeed throw a curve ball. It can do the same in the classroom. If a student happens to ask a question that's a little off the wall, chances are that another student will ask the same question in a future course. Make a note of it whenever it happens, so that you are more prepared.

You should always have a another plan that does not require you to use a computer (powerpoint). If the computer is ever down in the classroom you need to have some other way to get them the information.

Hi Katie,
Good point. Plan B must always be available because you never know when you will need it. I have found it isn't a matter of "if" you will need it but "when" you will need it.
