There are so many different kinds of disabilities and there is not a test to take to diagnose. It is through the cooperation of many people that a diagnosis is made

I learned that people with disabilities are most likely suffering with a reading issue and that it isn't that they are lazy but rather they cannot interpret the letters into words etc.

I will make sure that I start each day the same so any students with autism can feel comfortable and know the routine. I will also make sure that I use varying ways to display information and have a notetaker for them. I will make sure all my language is direct and not using sarcasm or sayings that would confuse them.

I have a better understanding of student's learning challenges and preferences. It showed me how important it is to create an inclusive classroom. I learned that flexible teaching methods, thoughtful accommodations, and thorough assessments can help students succeed. As a nurse educator and leader, I want to support inclusive teaching, use a range of learning activities, and encourage faculty to give every student a fair chance to show what they know and can do.

I learned that students who speak more than one language can have different language and reading skills, and that language barriers do not mean a lack of knowledge or ability. As a nurse educator and leader, I plan to encourage open communication, provide useful language resources, and support students as they develop the academic and professional language skills they need to succeed.

Reinforced how important cultural awareness, inclusivity, and clear communication are in education. I realized that cultural differences, racial biases, and assumptions can influence how students participate and succeed. As a nurse educator and leader, I plan to use teaching that respects different cultures, encourage respectful communication, and make sure every student feels included, supported, and valued during their education.

I should always start my class in a routine way so the student with autism knows what to expect and will not feel overwhelmed or uncomfortable.

The overall course served as a reminder that all students learn differently, and that by using hands-on approaches, visual aids, clear instructions, and creating a supportive environment, we as CTE instructors provide all students with an equal opportunity to succeed.

That there are programs for autistic high schoolers to see what college is like and can attend for a few days to get a better grasp of what they can expect if they choose to attend college.

I have learned that creating an inclusive classroom means understanding each student's individual strengths, needs, and learning styles. I want to apply strategies such as visual directions, modified assignments, extra time, and peer support in my PLTW biomedical science lessons. I will continue to make adjustments as needed so that all students feel included and have the opportunity to succeed.
