Foreign Students and Pygmalion

In the course I teach to foreign students there is a high degree building confidence in the students to be able to achieve the results expected. Are they any other techniques that get foreign students motivated?

Use of Case Studies as a demonstration of learning

I teach foreign students in foreign countries and use Case Studies created by the students to demonstrate what they have learned in the course. This seems to be effective based on the results experienced.

delivering course content

Do practice and more re-search on the course that you going to teach the more information that you can give your student the more interest respond you can get from them.

Testing

Make sure tests a valid and reliable. Many of our tests are created for our deparment, and they do not always measure the content. I have to either supplement the course material or delete the question from the test.

Styles of Learning

I love it when students first realize what style of learning they prefer. It awakens them, and allows them to understand that there is nothing "wrong" with them. They realize that they are unique.

Greetings

Greet EVERY student daily...they will remember and RECOGNIZE you always if you remember them. Believe me, I have been in education for over 20 years and I have students stop me in malls, restaurants, grocery stores, etc. It's good to know that they remember you.

Planning and Preparation

When planning for class it's good to use Bloom's Taxonomy. Bloom's helps an instructor to make sure he or she is using the higher level thinking and instructional skills. Incorporating activities that use analysis, application, and evaluation are important for adult learners.

Love Your Subject..Love Your Students

Over the years, I have found many educators in love with their subject area. However, they are not in love with the students they serve. In fact, some instructors are "afraid" of the students they serve. It is because of this fear, instructors are ineffective. Fall in love with your students and watch your love of your subject matter come alive. Leea Power

Positive Teaching.

The Instructor is reponsible for providing a positive environment for learning and engaging the students.

Prove your expertise

When I was a student, I always wondered, "Why should I listen to this teacher?" I feel like this same attitude has pushed into the way I teach. Although I feel like calming students nerves is extremely important, I think that proving your experience and explaining why you are a professional in this subject is extremely important. When you tell students of your experience and where you have been, it will allow them to understand that what they are learning does cross over into the real world. Ron Stefanski MBA

Learner Activites

I picked up a sample of student activities previously in these seminars:paper planes! I love this excercise, it demonstartes leadership ability, ability to follow directions and it is not allways the best candidate who becomes the leader...Just like in real life!
