Power point & Charts

I find that power point keep the student ingaged in the lectures. I also use this to keep myself on track & not go to far off trach, I also see tat the student take better notes, so they dont have to read my chicken scrach on the board. Chart work will with the pp presentation also. I found out it helps out a lot in my classes.

extra credit all or nothing

I think extra credit is ok as long as everyone is given the same opportunity to get it but it should only be up to 5 pints it is 0 or 5 no 1/2 points

PowerPoint, Demos and Hands-on

I think they can be good but you can not fill PP with to much stuff

Extra Credit

Extra credit should not be used. It is not fair for student who do all of their work.

Pretest

Pretests are a good tool to help identfy weak students.

Power Point

The best tool for learning.

Class prep

Just taking one extra step. Makes a big diffrence in keepin the class in order.

Clinical Evaluation

In clinical setting the grade is PASS or NOT PASS. How can I emphesize good students?

Freaking out student

I have a student that every time someone needs to perform a new skill she gets histerical. She would ask the person "are you sure you can do it? Sit and think it through, You are so brave for trying" I have to shoosh her. She is so histerical that she refuses to try staff herself. How can I help her. I even tried few times to "walk her throu" the steps without success

Learning new skill

When a student needs to do a new skill, he/she verbilized to me fisrt the steps that requires for the skill. Then if he/she agrees more students are coming to watch and learn

How to motivate students

Sometimes I think that I am ore excited about nursing than some of my students. The students know that we need to help the patients eat meals but sometimes the students are taking long lunch themselves and do not help the patients. I would be the only one that help. When I ask them why they did not help they would normally response "helping patients eat is a CNA job" I response that there is nothing like "CNA job" and that there are more RNs than CNA and that they can help. I also say that helping with feeding is a great way to reassess and comunicate with their patients. They will node their heads, help for a day or two and then will take long lunch again,

Game Time

I have very large classes 23, to 25 students. I like playing games but not very good at it. I would love some suggestions.

Creating an evaluation system

stick to course objectives

New instructional methods

Use power point and hand outs

Being prepaid for classs

Read beforehand

Ice Breaker Idea

I do an ice breaker card on the first day of class where my students fill in their home-town, favorite hobbie, etc. This helps me get to know them and recall their names. What also might be helpful is to have them include (voluntarily) a concern/fear they may have as they enter the program. This will help me to proactively address common anxieties that create road blocks to student success and establish a supportive atmosphere in my classroom.

Guest Critics in Class

I find in design oriented classes bringing in guest critics to look at and discuss each student work to be a great benefit. It gives the student a chance to dialogue with respected colleagues and more importantly get different point of view regarding their design work. The guest's input can be assessed and implemented if the student believes it is beneficial to their project, or it can filed away for further consideration. Guest critics also help students become more comfortable with presenting in front of others, which they will be doing for the rest of their academic and professional careers.

Classroom Prep

I like to keep a open close spreadsheet, as we would in a real kitchen, to keep the classroom consistantly set up for classes.

Cover sheets to help with lab enviroment

I find that giving cover sheet handouts to the students cut down dramatically on having to explain lab assignments over and over. It also is a great place to put any critical information pertaining to the labs that may not already be in their books. I've also heard students help other students by reminding them to use their cover sheets when unsure of some information needed to start or complete a lab assignment.

Going over the quiz/final

I go over the quiz's as soon they finish taking them, the students seem to like this. This gives them the chance to ask any questions they might have about the quiz.
