Documenting Your Lesson Plans

What is the purpose and value of documenting your lesson plans?

Selecting Course Content

What are some ways you go about selecting content for your course? If you are given standardized course content, how do you personalize it to your instructional style and the needs of your students?

having more than one teaching style

I felt the course want us to pick the one teaching style that fit us. I didn't feel like I fit anyone style but a bit of several. Anyone else feel that way?

sharing success stories, and defeats!

I use a lot of stories during my lectures (culinary) I noticed the ones that catch my student's attention the most, are the ones where I share my mistakes and defeats, it keeps everything in perspective, and emphasizes the growing curve we all go thru in our careers.

Power point and hands on tools

Thinking back at how my instructors taught, I really enjoyed hands on activities. I found these most interesting, and because of the repetition, I was able to develop the skill being taught. Today, Power Point gives the instructor the ability to make lectures more interesting through the use of slides and I feel is helpful in keeping the students of today more engaged.

Plan B

Most of us do not have plan B when we go to our classrooms. But I beive it is very essential.

Powepoint Presentation

main idea of preparing pointpower is to help students to understand better and give them break down the most important point of the subject.

Field trip

I strongly belive field trip is very helpful for our students to understand better how to implement their knowledge in to the real world.

Grading

in order to be fair to the students we have to very carefull when it comes grading. as we know there are many different types of students we have each one has a different personality and learning ability but the common goal is to be successful. We do accept sometimes the fact what students go thgrouh out their life and learn to connect them some wat to understand them better every efford we do for them will affect their ability to learn and will give them better opportunity improve their grades if needed.

School policy

My school has a crystal clear "no extra credit" policy. Students still come to me to ask for extra credit and I quote the policy. The student gives me some kind of attitude or an eyeroll. Later I find out other teachers are giving extra credit. To put it bluntly, this sucks.

Test Taking

This can be a very hard time for students so being able to help them in their time of need is key.

Having a back up plan

This is very important because students always want to know what's next.

Teaching with a Power Point presentation

I believe that this canbe beneficial depending on the course you are teaching, but it is important to know that there are other options available.

Establish new and exciting field trips!

I love the idea of being able to take your students on field trips. I think most of the time Instructors don't realize that they have that option.

Hands on.

As much as I agree that visual and hearing are huge in the learning process, Being able to do hands on (feel) is a very helpful tool in having the student learn. Working in the field of audio I have noticed that as the students learn the theory and are able to visually see presentations and video's of how things are done, actually being Hands on and doing it themselves helps tremendously in the learning process.

Starting with the syllabus

I find it helpful to create a syllabus that outlines what is going to be done every week as far as discussions, in-class, lab and homework. I also write this on the board before the student arrives to remind them.

Makeup exams

I agree. When a student misses an exam and has to make it up. I either give a different version or make it an essay test. This alleviates the worry of possible cheating.
