Online learners

As the online coordinator I see both the positive and negative issues with online learning. The students that I assit have the most issue with instructors not returning communication on time. Also they struggle with time managment. I have even had some students tell me they do not have time for the online class and that they need to work. When I ask them what they would do if the class happened to be a ground class, they tell me they would schedule work around it. I think with the push for online we need to focus on time managment skills at the same time. Also the platform we use has to be engaging so students feel they are actually engaging in a learning environment.

We received this mail:

Training is ineffective unless the desired behavior, knowledge and skills are transferred to the workplace. Applying what you've learned from your training will help you maximize your performance results. Please take a moment to reflect on what you've learned and how you intend to apply what you've learned in your workplace environment.

The first objective would be to obtain a position as an online instructor!

We did connect strategies defined in the course (engaging learners and managing the e-environment) with those we utilize in a traditional classroom.  We gained perspective of the e-learning environment and how to approach instruction and connection with students 1-2-1.

New concepts will be utilized in our current classes as we have (from the beginning as an instructor) integrated the “brick and mortar” classroom with the online environment.

One thing we would miss in online instruction is expressing our dry sense of humor. Does not translate well in the printed word!
