I recently completed the Admissions Compliance for Postsecondary Schools in Florida course. The course outlined some of the core policies that admissions employees should be fully aware of, as well as the various best practice to implement. I've learned some new intricacies about what an admissions employee can and cannot say to students, as well as shifting my mindset from a "sales" perspective to more of a ambassador role for my college. While it may sound obvious, I think it's really easy to put a lot of pressure on ourselves as admissions reps to consistently increase enrollment numbers. As you can imagine, that can cause some to misrepresent key information, like guaranteeing placement in a professional field as a result of enrollment or stating that credits from other institutions will transfer over when you are unsure. The course reaffirmed the importance of honesty and accuracy throughout the entire admissions process. this will not only ensure that the college I'm working for has a better reputation, as well as feeling better about the way in which I perform my future job responsibilities.
Overall, I appreciated the course and its completeness of information; I believe that this was a good foundation for my new job, where professional experience will help fill in any knowledge gaps that will arise in the future.
