Feedback

Feedback is very important in the medical field. At my place of employment, we refer to feedback in three steps (1) Briefing-before starting your assigment, it is important to know what is going on with the daily plan. This is a detailed patient planning concept which involves the whole team. (2) Huddles-which can occur anytime during the shift. Making sure things are going according to plan or if any problems or changes are needed. (3) debriefing- how did to shift go. Were their any problems and what did we learn or do to corect the problems. This is done every day.

I agree.  Feedback is basically learning where you stand.  Whether you are asking for feedback or receiving unsolicited feedback, it is an important communication skill.  I have extern students who are not always the best communicators.  I have recently begun to recommend that they ask for feedback from their supervisor so that they know where they stand.  Particularly if they are having problems and we are trying to raise them up to the level of expectation. Often it is better to ask, than wonder.
