Evaluating Student Learning

This training reinforced that effective live online teaching requires me to facilitate learning, check understanding regularly, and adjust instruction based on student responses. Participation alone does not demonstrate understanding, and silence does not necessarily indicate disengagement. I need to give students meaningful opportunities to explain and apply what they have learned.

I intend to apply these strategies in my classes by alternating brief explanations with polls, chat prompts, and small-group activities. I will give breakout groups clear instructions and a defined task tied to the lesson objective, such as evaluating a marketing scenario or developing a broadcast segment. Instead of asking, “Does everyone understand?” I will ask students to explain a concept or use it in a practical example.

After each session, I will review student work, participation, and exit-ticket responses to identify where additional support is needed. I will also prepare backup activities for technical problems. Where appropriate, I can use AI to organize feedback and summarize recurring questions, while reviewing its findings for accuracy and protecting student privacy. These practices will help me improve future lessons and strengthen students’ ability to apply their skills in the workplace.
