I teach Automotive Drivability courses. I have two students in front of a class, each representing their team.

1. With the two students, 1 each representing their team facing away from the white board where they can not see what I write. I will for   example write a word. For Example: Waste Spark.

2. Once everyone in the class is clear on what I wrote, I erase the word.

3. I will then get between the two students where I can hear both of them.

4. I announce, "on your marks, get set, go".

5. At that point the two teams at the same time start to give to their team member hints about what the work is, Example:= Distribitorless igniton system/ Fires two spark plugs with one coil/ One plug fires on compression and the other on exhaust.

Conlusion= wichever contestent states the Answer "Waste Spark" first gets the Point for their team. Any ties are then decided by Rock, Paper, Scissors.

This does two things...

A. It makes the class members have to think of ways to explain the given Mechanical, electrical, or device that is presented.

B. It makes the contestent utilize their knowledge base to identify the components by filtering the clues given by their side of the class.

This also works for more then just a word, it also works for more in depth sentences.

For example: I can write on the board, An abnormal combustion event that takes place prior the the ignition in the cylinder that leads to a possible burned hole in the piston.

Answer= Pre-Ignition.

I then get a double wammy. It makes the class think about what I wrote in their own minds (I always ask after making them think about it. Does every one know the answer? if I get a bunch of not really looks, I will then write "Pre Ignition".

 I tell the students they can use the terms I wrote. After all, It is a learning game and the goal is then to get their team members to state the correct answer.

Note: I have had to make a few rules. For example: When discussing ignition patterns.  I will write the word "Parade Pattern". I will have students cheat and say hints that are not automotive related Like "Rose Bowl" to try and get the word Parade. That is a cheat and not allowed.
