There are ways to prevent students from leaving and early intervention is key.
some retentions can be avoided by talking and understanding students there are so many factors that can lead to students dropping a class we just need to listen and help out where we can we all need to interact with students more
Be aware of student involvement. Notice the signs of someone who is struggling. Retention is the responsibility of all.
All are responsible for retention.
Support for our students need to come from all departments. Although instructors may know the students the best, they may not always be the best staff member to support students who are having issues that are not curriculum related. It is important to get the student to the right staff member(s). While we cannot control the necessary drops, we can improve upon the unnecessary drops by making sure students are compatible with the program, our learning environment, and expectations before enrolling them.
That students need to be mentored from the beginning to the end of the program so that they can continue being hopeful till they graduate. That I should ensure that there is good communication between me and the students so that they don't have to keep problems to themselves then get overwhelmed hence withdraw from the program.
Retention is an Institutional effort.

Retention is refered to as an institution's ability to it upgrade by reducing the percentage the percentage of students or staffs that leave the institution during a specific time frame.
Instructors are around the students the most and typically have built a good relationship with students. We as an instructor have a greater chance noticing when the student is going through something that may be pushing them from continuing with the class. As an instructor we are able to catch these early signs and either talk with the student or recommend them to another department to ensure they do not drop their class.
That students who come to secondary schools can often be the first of their family. They do not have any role models and while they are struggling outside of school it may be hard for them to seek help from their family. Student retention is a job for everyone at the school. Reaching out to students when they are seen struggling is the first step. When students decide to withdraw it is often difficult for them to do to admit that they cannot make it at that time.
Retention is not the responsibility of a single department—it's a campus-wide effort. Understanding the underlying reasons students withdraw from school, and using appropriate formulas and diverse practices to analyze these factors, greatly aids in improving retention.

It is essential for all support staff to actively observe students for early warning signs of disengagement or difficulties. By collaborating effectively, they can establish a comprehensive support system that addresses these issues. Implementing timely interventions is crucial, as it empowers students and enhances their chances of success in their educational journeys.
Retention is more than just about retaining a certain number of students. There are many dynamics that go into the success of a program and the success of maintaining students. It is important to track academic cohorts to be able to identify trends and to help you to identify different problem areas. Once these problem areas have been identified, you can develop a strong plan of action.
To improve retention rate, a comprehensive assessment of everything that impact the student's academic performance must be performed and targeted interventions must be initiated to ensure the student completes the term successfully.
Retention has been, and always will be, everyone's responsibility. However, depending on the institution you are in, that may not always be the case. Retention is often more front-loaded than back-loaded. The institution doesn't only need to have the right people in the right place at the right time—it also needs to ensure that its systems are being upgraded to meet current demands. If the systems are outdated, students will notice. As stated, students are more astute shoppers and have higher expectations.
In addition, the institution must regularly review its workflows, policies, and procedures to ensure students are receiving accurate information and getting what they need.
