I was also taught that closed ended questions had a bad connotationto them. However, learning more about asking questions I realized that both open and closed ended questions have their own benefits. Avoiding why questions, so the person won't feel the need to explain/defend themselves. This can be disengaging and throw off the entire conversation.

I have learned the importance of using engaging questions

Questions and they way they are asked sets the tune and helps us gather more valuable information

If you really want an engagement with the client or prospect,  or friend, kid, spouse know when to use a closed and open ended question. This will provide a better interaction during a conversation with whom ever it is you are speaking with.

I loved this module. It was a great reminder to utilize open ended questions and to always take control of the converstaion to get the information needed out of it. Once I focus on these things, my conversation will be more successful.

It is imperative to know when to ask open and closed ended questions. In the probing and gathering information phase, the use of asking open ended questions will allow the ability to gather information and uncover what the students needs are. Close ended questions are good for moving forward in the conversation as well as uncovering specific information.

Open end questions is a more positive way for both, the listener and you. You wouldn't want any negativity or for the listener to feel bad, uncomfortable and irritated or embarrased. This will only result in a loss. Let them see and know that you are there to help them succeed and engage with them.

Open and Closed ended questions allow for exploration and true commitment to start and finish. Once engaged you can assist the applicant with minimal objections.

Both servers a valuable purpose when seeking to gain insight into the individual and assist in better defining a person's needs.

Questions builds rapport.  Open ended and close ended questions are the basic forms of questions to use. Stay away from "why" questions as it imply judgement or may make the students have to defend themselves.

The purpose of questions are to build rapport, guide dicovering, encourage exploration, and aid in problem solving. Powerful questions have simplicity, purposem, energy, possibility, and exploration.

I learned how important it is to value the 2 types of question format in different circumstances.

Open questions effectively promote awareness, understand the other person, and discover details about a situation.

I learned about the effective questions and those that generate rapprochement and relationship with the propect and I will include them in my daily interview monitoring processes

Simplicity goes a long way. It is important to digest each question to avoid any misunderstanding and be transparent with your peers.

I have learnt how to make coversations more engaging for both myself and the person who is responding to me. It is as equally important to ask closed and open ended questions depening on what stage of the exploratory phase you are at. Either way questions are asked, at the end of the day the purpose behind a question is to bring information to the surface. Very interesting to learn the different means of collecting information through language.

In this module, I learned that keeping questions postive and without judgemental undertone is most effective and sets the listener up to answer comfortably. When you allow yourself to frame a question from the perspective of the recipient you are giving them the best chance of understanding and giving a direct answer.

As a seasoned Admissions Representative it is imperative that I ask open ended questions as the goal is to retrieve as much information as possible.  I also want to build great rapport with my prospective students in such a way that an open ended question can lead to a series of answers for an example:  If you had an opportunity to begin school what time frame did you have in mind?  Hopefully this will lead to not only the timeframe, but how long this has been a goal of theirs to return to school and earn a degree.

The attributes of a powerful question were a good review to having the beginnings of questions written out. What I found interesting was the engaging versus disengaging questions. Had not thought of it as looking at the question from different perspectives.

Loved learning about the 5 attibutes of a powerful question - will help me re-formulate some of the things I ask to stuents!
