I enjoyed thinking about how my students' diverse backgrounds could be used in my math courses. I have many students from outside the United States that have experiences in math that are different from students that were raised in the United States, but when we discuss the concepts we realize there are many similarities. It is intriguing to me to think of the students discussing and explaining their previous math experiences and teaching other students about their culture in the process. Helping students make connections between their prior experiences and connecting it in a new way will help them make those connections throughout their education as well as their careers.
