This module helped me understand that effective educational games require thoughtful design and alignment with learning objectives. I learned that successful games rely on strong concept development, meaningful challenges, intrinsic motivation, and opportunities for reflection through debriefing. I also learned that creating engaging learning experiences does not necessarily require advanced programming skills; instead, it requires careful planning and a focus on the learner's experience.
As an online instructor, I intend to apply these concepts by incorporating more game-based and collaborative learning activities into my courses. I am particularly interested in using scenarios, challenges, and reflective debriefing activities that encourage students to think critically and apply their knowledge to real-world situations. I also plan to focus on intrinsic motivation by creating learning experiences that are meaningful, relevant, and rewarding for students beyond simply earning grades. These strategies can help increase engagement, promote deeper learning, and create a more interactive online classroom environment.
