This module taught me the importance of creating an inclusive learning environment that supports the success of all students, including those with disabilities. I learned that every student has unique strengths and challenges, and that accommodations and modifications outlined in IEPs and 504 Plans are essential for providing equitable access to learning. I also learned that barriers to learning are often found in the instructional environment rather than within the student, and that effective teachers use multiple teaching and assessment strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
I will apply this knowledge by reviewing student IEPs and 504 Plans, providing appropriate accommodations and modifications, using flexible instructional strategies, and offering multiple ways for students to demonstrate their learning. I will also build positive relationships with students, communicate with support staff and families, and create a classroom environment where all students feel valued, supported, and capable of success.
