"Students seeking accommodations need to realize that their instructors are experts in their field of study. They are not special educators trained in disabilities, so the list serves as a starting point for all those involved." This stood out to me as our k-12 system in the state starts to move towards inclusion models without training teachers in how to appropriately accommodate for their specific subject. I've found this is heavily present for testing subjects, such as ELA or Math, but less so for career and tech subjects. As a CTE teacher at the high school level, I often struggle to appropriately adapt my curriculum to high-level supports. While things like chunking, guided notes and video tutorials, and multiple modes of instructional delivery come easily to me, I often struggle with making the more complex parts of the software we use accessible.
