Student retention

At what point do you make a decision that at the career college level a student is not in the right field even though they can pass the class?

I beleive that is something time will tell. If the program they are in has an internship, or they can work in the field they are studying, the results may be sooner than later. They may find out as they try other fields, that maybe the first choice was the best. I think as a mentor we need to give them sound options, so they can fulfill their goals and make sound decisions. If we do that then the rest will play out.

The point of decision is usually when they spent the money for tuition and find they can't earn a living in the real world with their skill set.

Our population ranges from studnets who join us directly from highschool all the way to students who are changing their careers. The motivation for each of our studnets is very different and we must address the retention of our students individually.
