Job Skills

Hvving a career service advisor can help with retention . Students need that extra push .

Omesa,

The career is what the students are looking for. Keeping an eye on that goal throughout the training helps greatly.

Ron Hansen, Ed. D.

I use my 40 plus years of work exspierence daily in help my student stay motivated and excited about there future and in doing so i am able to keep my passion alive aswell

William,

Reflecting on what you know and sharing it anew does keep it fresh.

Ron Hansen, Ed. D.

The expierence that we bring is what helps keep the sudent in school and interested in the course, the students like when you can tell a story that relates to what they are working on.

Michael,

Yes they do. This helps reinforce the information very well.

Ron Hansen, Ed. D.

oh yeah, we have one of the best advisors ive ever had the privilege of working with. she constantly visits our class and reinforces the students.

I also think it is smart for the graduate employment specialists to have a very strong, working knowledge of the competencies required for certain program's graduates. Having a copy of the program-specific competency checklist will help those who are receptive to the assistance.

Robert,

Product knowledge is important for the front end (Admissions) and the back end (Career Services).

Ron Hansen, Ed. D.

Keeping students informed about their job opportunities in the future keeps them motivated and focused during classes.

Real world experiences are a valuable tool to enhance student's knowledge in the field.

Our Graduate Services Dept help students "kepp their eye on the prize". This helps the instructor in the classroom and lab foccus on why the student need to learn theory and skills.

Arleen,

Relating the learning to the real world helps the students to see the relevancy of what they are learning.

Ron Hansen, Ed. D.

Yes, I agree! Having either experienced faculty or guest speakers with real world experience brings solidarity to the lecture. It helps to connect students to the "why" of their studies and through that, provide needed motivation through graduation.

Wayne,

I what ways does the Graduate Services Department accomplish this?

Ron Hansen, Ed. D.

I agree with this statement. Students need to be followed up to increase retention

I agree that personal stories with a bit of added humor keeps not only my students motivated, but myself as well!

While teaching, I always interject a "real life" experience and incorporate that into my lecture. I believe that proves to the students that what they are learning can be applied in the work place.

Stacy ,

Your real life experiences or stories from others helps the student to understand the industry they have chosen.

Ron Hansen, Ed. D.

I agree. I have been in the field that I teach for 30 years. I have on the job experiences that we can decuss and interact which makes things more real and exciting.
