Mentoring

This section is so correct. A student does expect to be held accountable. Even though we may know the topic of discussion we are teaching, we have to get to know our students and let them know we are human and care. On the other side of that, the student has to know they are still accountable for the syllabus contents.

Just today I ran 30 minutes late getting to class. I'm usually an hour early and my students know this. So I come in to the classroom 30 minutes before class but 30 minutes behind my schedule time. Of course I have students waiting to talk to me about a job oppurtunity. I was unable to give them 100% of my attention because I was setting up for class. They know I care and want to help them. They also understood my situation at the time of our discussion. So we set up a time after class to talk.
