School enviroment

The enviroment in the school is a very important factor in retention. Many times student don't feel they can ask anyone for help. This leads them to not seeking any help till it is too late. They must feel like the school is there for them.

Any ideas why some students might feel they can't ask for help, Elmira? Is it part of their personality or a school culture issue?

We call it the "vibe" of the school. The environment has to feel welcoming for students to feel at home and comfortable and feel like they can ask questions for any reason.

It's easy to say you care but if it's not demonstrate to students, the environment is not what they expected. The school environment should reflect what they are told and what they expect.

Do you have an official "vibe" monitor, Scott? How you come up with a way to measure the vibe level?
