Self-Worth

Each of us are responsible for our own self actualization but it is also the responsibility of the leaders (teacher, parents, and professors) to help each person by instilling confident in that member so that they are as strong as the strongest link of the network or section.

While those of us who have been supported and encouraged to be successful throughout life will strongly agree with this many would not. I think that many of our students come from a background where they were not expected to achieve or so many who are handed tjhings that they expect to succeed without having to work for it.

Education has become a "customer" driven product in many cases and the haves and have nots expect or do not expect to achieve success. We have a challenging job to bring all of those studnets to a different place.

when a student feels like they are worth something to the class that student has invested in us at all levels. They need us to hold it all together and to move in a direction for sucess

I try to encourage my students to text me examples of the demos that we do in class, and then I support them with a follow up text. I find that it not only promotes living the material but also promotes their self-esteem.

Great use of technology, Daniel. Text messaging seems to be the preferred method of communication and could be a useful tool for other classroom related issues.

My students need to feel that self worth and need to be reminded that they can succeed on a regular basis or they will fall behind. They are having people outside of school try to knock them down and we need to build them up and support them.

Good point, Nicole. It's easy to forget the challenges that our students encounter from people who don't share their dream.

I agree, it is an equal challenge to help students from both of these backgrounds. I actually find it easier to try to praise and build some self esteem than I do the students with the everything always handed to them issue. Any ideas on how to get these students to take national exams seriously?
