Intervention

I think the thing we need to keep in mind is that we cannot "fix" anyone. Most of us are not qualified professional therapists to begin with, but that aside, our student's must learn how to handle and deal with their own problems.

Of course, we should be there, to help them see the bootstrap, but they must be the owns to actually do the work. Still, it can be all too tempting to try and do everything for them, especially if we have become so invested in their success. But we must keep in mind that does them a disservice - they are here to learn a new set of skills and chief among them are new life skills - how to solve problems as they arise.

I agree we can not fix everyone and students do need to learn to deal and handle their own problems. Especially adults, life is about trials and errors. We are not professional therapists but instructors. Well said Paul

As instructors I think we need to all evaluate how much we really do care for our students. Following a blueprint for intervention is a start but if we do not actually care for our students I am sure this lack of empathy will be evident to them.

Kevin, you raise a good point that is also true for all relationships. People are skilled at identifying those who aren't genuine in their interactions.
