Motivational Interviewing for Career Support Professionals --> Navigating Challenges and Professional Growth

Post what you've learned about this topic and how you intend to apply it. Feel free to post questions and comments too.

In this module, I learned that Motivational Interviewing is a person-centered approach that helps individuals strengthen their own motivation and commitment to change rather than being told what to do. I gained a better understanding of the importance of active listening, empathy, open-ended questions, affirmations, and encouraging change talk to help participants identify their own reasons for making positive changes.

I plan to apply these skills by creating a supportive and respectful environment where participants feel heard and empowered. I will also use Motivational Interviewing techniques to navigate resistance collaboratively and help individuals clarify their goals and develop confidence in achieving them. I believe that with continued practice and reflection, these skills will make me a more effective coach and facilitator.

I've learned more about motivational interviewing and how to conduct them effectively by asking open-ended questions.  I've also learned about how to navigate professional growth and the importance of it.

I hope to assist clients in developing their plans for the future and increasing their ability to follow through.
