Email Newsletters

There are many good comments in this forum on using email newsletters to stay in touch (with graduates). We were considering a single newsletter for students, graduates and employers (not sure we have the resources to do three letters a month). Any thoughts on if this would be too broad of an audience for one newsletter?

Susan's suggestion of creating sections to include in every newsletter is helpful. Examples suggested were: "Message from the Director, Meet our Recent Grads, Tests Scheduled this Month, Study Tips, Employers Interviewing at our Campus, etc.” Are there any other thoughts on sections for graduates and/or employers?

As always everyone's ideas are sincerely appreciated.

I would ask for tips from employers and grads about how to interview for a job, get over the fear of the job search, fear of the first day on the job, etc. If you ask I bet you'll get lots of info. Best wishes, Susan

PR coupled with job placement is always a winning combination!

Our thought is to dry to publicize anything that is possibly newsworthy and of interest to others. Lots of opportunities with job placement such as number of placements, type of industry, info about the future of the industry, how fast your grads get jobs, something general about their job retention, job promotion, etc. It does take gathering information. Really great for internal communication - especially to your admissions department staff. Thanks, Susan

We have established an 'E-Connections Newsletter' that goes out each Monday to all students, grads, instructors, and students who have finished or ended their program without graduating. My able assistant is in charge of this duty and it has proven to be very successful.
It includes new weekly placements, tips and ideas for successful interviewing, suggestions on thank you notes, letters of introduction and cover letters, as well as ideas and concerns from employers. We try to do this in an interesting, uplifting, and humorous manner.

Lucille, This is so great. Keeping in touch with interesting and helpful bits of information keeps people attached to your school. YOu may not results right away. But it's like planting seeds. You just need to watch the "remove" requests. Thanks, Susan

We just started to send the newsletter out through e-mail. We have a section "message from the President" and Alumni Spot light. I did not think of sending it to our employers, but that is a good idea.

How do you encourage students to use e-mail or to communicate with e-mail if it is not something they already do?

Glad to hear you are getting more mileage from your newsletter. It can go to students, grads, prospects, employers who employ your students and those who don't yet. Also members of the community in your industries. If students don't use email perhaps they are texting or IMing. So you might think of ways to reach them via how they are communicating. This newsletter sounds great. We have a Job Club at our school. We send out post card invitations and have a meeting every month. We give each student who graduates a Job Club Folder with resume submission logs, interview logs, and networking logs. We also give them alot of other infromation helpful for a successful job search.

Job Club sounds great. Sounds like it keeps students active and helps them assess their progress. It's a way to show that your placement department is very active. Thanks
