Any suggestions for placing grads that lack required experience?

It seems very challenging to place graduates in any field who have little to no experience other than the internship experience. Any suggestions on what can be done?

Hi Nora, Really great question. First your program needs to be complete enough to provide the skills and knowledge needed so grads can be effective on the job on day 1. Employers can tell you how good your grads are and what might need to be changed or added to your curriculum. You point to the reason why internships are so important. We think just about every program should have a real-work component. And lots of lab work. If structured effectively the internship experience can serve as a way to show the experience the student has. Thanks, Susan

I agree with the other response. in that it really is important that the school provides, and the grad emphasizes the amount of lab work they achieved in school.
This can help an employer at least determine the student has entry level experience.

Hi Jack, Lab and experiential work are essential for just about every career. Students can't just sit in class taking notes. They need to test their knowledge by doing. Intern or externships are important too. It gets students working in a real work setting and gives them something to put on their resumes. Thanks, Susan

Internship is the first step to create a base for each student in their further employment. Student in our organization can not graduate without set amount of internship do to our medical field education. It is mandatory for students to practice under the supervision of professionals. The more internship can be provided the more confident the student become. Internship strengthens resumes as well.

We absolutely believe that an intern or externship program is key to success for most career programs. Students need to practice skills in a real work environment. It's also a great transition to the workplace. And students can get feedback from professionals in the field. Many times the student will also be hired by the externship site. Connecting with organizations re externships gives schools the opportunity to develop relationships with potential employers too. Thanks, Susan
