GUEST SPEAKERS

Are they really important for a College. What kind of speaker do you encourage to have at a college when their are so many different Majors?

Guest speakers can be part of the career services you offer or part of your career fairs. As you build relationships with grads and employers ask them what they would like to speak about. They might want to talk about how to prepare for an effective interview or what to expect. This is applicable for all careers. Ask students what they want to hear about from employers. You'll soon have lots of speakers and very interested students. Good luck, Susan

It is very important to have speaker come in and give the students a inside look at the job market and the pit falls they may face.

Hi Furman, Very true. Gues speakers are great. Also anyone from the industry who can come in and give students an inside look at what it is like working, what the interview is like, and even hold practice interview sessions. Guests don't always have to "speak." They can spend time in the classroom, mingle, give workshops, etc. Best wishes, Susan

Guest Speakers are a very vital part of Career Services

Yes, James. We agree about the use of guest speakers. They have to be given specific tasks such as talking about what they look for in an employee, why they give raises and promotions, hold mock interviews, talk about their industry, help students by mentoring and counseling them. We find that people who are willing to speak with students can be very creative in assisting them. Thanks, Susan
