Catalogs Are Critical

Catalogs are often mentioned throughout the course. What makes the catalog so valuable to both the student and a school employee?

The catalog is the stage setter for all. It is the place employees should go for guidance in answering student questions, and it is also the place where students should go to clear up questions - everyone should have one handy at all times.

The School Catalog is rightfully identified as an extension of the enrollment agreement. It provides details on all school policies, programs and individual courses. It also gives students insight into the faculty’s qualifications, the school’s mission and history and a calendar of school events and term starts. Students should be encouraged to read through the school catalog and familiarize themselves with everything in it. Should they need to contact the school’s state regulators or accreditation commission the information will be there as well.

A school that is diligent in developing a comprehensive school catalog will save itself trouble when asked about its policies or procedures. A student who reads the school catalog can save the frustration of not knowing the answers to many questions about the school and its policies and procedures.

The catalog is valuable to both students and employees because it states the guidelines and regulations that should be available to all. It is a helpful tool you should be able to turn to if needed. It will provide the student with the course work and the amount of credits available for each course.

The catalog is a valuable tool for both the student and school employee. The catalog is your guidebook to the policies and procedures of the campus and the course content. It is the go to for many questions that may arise.

If there is ever a question regarding a school policy I can always refer the student back to the catalog. It is eesential to be able to show student's the policy in writing so there is no question on what the policy is or how they can proceed with an issue they may have.

Mickie,

The Catalog is essentially the most important piece of information that we make available to students. It contains all of the policies and procedures as well as program information and costs. The catalog is essential for employees to understand the nature of the programs and all the policies affecting students. The first thing a new employee should do, is to read and learn the catalog.

The catalog should be designed and organized in such a manner that it is a "one stop shop" for students. It should contain specific information about all program offerings, admission requirements, grading, dress code, policies and procedures, facilities and last but certainly not least are course descriptions. A well developed catalog saves time, and clearly defines expectations and consequences for not adhering to the information contained in the document. We now require that students sign off on receipt of the catalog so we can avoid the "no one told me that" or "I didn't know" syndrome.

Carolyn,

Catalogs are sometimes overlooked in the entire scope of a career colleges success. You make a good point...the catalog should be a guide that takes the student from A-Z throughout their academic career. Having the student sign-off on the catalog places the burden of responsibility on the student.

The catalog is the most accurate representation of school policies. If students or school employees are unsure about what may be correct information, the catalog should always be referenced to ensure the accuracy of any statements made. This will avoid any potential misrepresentations.

It acts as an educational tool for the employee and student, but also as a rule book. You can always refer to the catalog when enforcing company policies/guidelines.
