What Constitutes School Endorsed Housing?

Under the school director duties he/she should ensure that all facilities, including housing endorsed by the school, comply with local, city, county, municipal, state, and federal regulations…If the school provides the name of a local apt. locator, to students relocating to attend the institution, does that constitute endorsed housing?

If the school recommends or endorses appartments then that would qualify. A statement from the school could be included that states that they have not inspected the appartments and cannot confirm the condition of the appartments and whether they comply with all codes.

I do not think that a simple referral to an apartment locator constitutes an endorsement of any given housing. In my opinion, a formal endorsement would require at a minimum a review of the housing including condition, location, compliance statements for local laws and a crime statistic review. A proper step farther would include an MOU regarding student lease rules and conduct requirements while in student housing. This would greatly assist the student in making an informed choice regarding student housing and insure the school is represented properly to its customer, the student. Student housing is critical to the success of a student and must receive the correct attention from the school. It is our responsibility as total educators.

Hello Richard,

In the TWC/CSC rules under section 807.62(g)(1)regarding School Director Qualifications and Duties that housing endorsed by the school must must with local and federal regulations. Having a list of apartment finding agencies available as possible contacts for your students should not fall under the area of endorsing housing, especially if there are no agreements between the school and these agencies.
