I believe the two important criteria are can the LMS do what we need it to do at our institution and the cost.

There are three criteria for the selection:
1. funcionality: to work for the instructors and for the students in an easy way.
2. maintenance: no long time needed for repair, or upgrades that discontinue the service.
3. Price.

Not only adult students, but students who chose not to engage in learning in high school and beyond, face the need for content to be accessible

What do you consider to be the two most important selection criteria for choosing a course management system at your institution?

Going in to a LMS, ease of use and cost were the two most crucial factors to consider. As our online enrollment grew the two most important factors became support and functionality as we have added courses that call for tools and lab environments that call for more bandwidth and third party tools. We have run pilots on many LMS platforms but the ability to get a quick response or resolution to technical issues are the most challenging.

Ed,
Which LMS have you settled on? Has it provided you with the level of support you were seeking?

Dr. Robert Roehrich

We have choosen Blackboard collaborate,it has provided us with all the functions our instructors like to use to deliver their courses and is pretty easy for the user/student. The turn around time for support can be frustrating at times but I understand no solution will be perfect.

Ed,
Thanks for the return reply Ed. You may want to talk to your account representative about the support turn around time. Account reps generally don't like their customers to be frustrated and the support issue is one they can usually influence.
Dr. Robert Roehrich

1. User friendliness
2. Technical support
