Recruiting and Enhancing Diverse Talent

I think that if you want to have a more diverse team for a career college, one needs to review your recruiting area. It would serve you well to look for a variety of people, some who may be older, perhaps former teacher or counselors. They understand the language needed to get you access to some high schools.

You must also consider culturally, is there a representation of all areas on your team. In career schools, students like to see someone like themselves on campus. I like the ideal listed in this module of asking current staff members of the desired groups for recommendations. Give incentives to assist in recruiting.

Diversity is a must in the career college industry. Being from California having a diverse student population is a given, so to serve our studnet population well we must have staff and faculty that mirror the diversity of our students.

Not only does a diverse staff serves the needs of like ethnicities, but it also serves to expand the world view of those students that are from different back grounds.

Recruiting in ethnicly based media of all kinds is a huge help. Maximizing referrals from existing staff as well as looking to other organizations for referrals will work too.

Inclusive teams take the best from each team member and incorporate it into the function of the team.

What methods have you employed, or would you employ, to recruit diverse talent for your career school team? How would you foster an inclusive team environment so that such talent would be nurtured?
