using crossword puzzles

I use crossword puzzles for a "change of pace" not for every chapter...but a pop-up for a homework assignment and when it comes up the students enjoy the chance for a change of pace.

It is possible to overuse crossword puzzles, but your occasional use is a good idea.

I use crossword puzzles for a pop quiz this way I can see who is studying on their own and not just when they get to class. And it lets me know if a student does not understand the materials that we are covering.

Pop quizzes keep people on their toes as well as reinforcing content.

I use crossword puzzles as part of my test review. Most of my students enjoy them and I have a higher passing grade.

I noticed that my less enthusiastic student seem to show more attention and interest with crossword puzzles. Another observation that my students who struggle to study seem to retain the material when I use the puzzles.

Those are two positive results to using the puzzles.
