online forums and chat rooms

I have found that engaging in online forums and chat rooms allows members of the same interest, to interact and share experiences, and collectively work together to search for understanding or solutions.

I agree with your statement Evelyn. I have utilized this method and it works great as well as grants a networking opportunity in that particular field.

I have in some instances had tremendous engagement and growth among students when creating interesting forums, often using articles or reports as catalysts. I have also had students in Hybrid classes fail purely due to their failure to make time forthe forums despite clearly detailed course requirements and weighting disclosures. There is definitely a time management learning curve necessary for students when discussion boards are a meaningfull weighted component of a class.
