Using Social Media for Professional Development

I have joined groups for Professional Development purposes, however I have come across users who utilize the service for promotional materials rather than spurring discussion or sharing ideas. What are the Best Practices for submitting and subscribing for Professional Development Purposes?

David,

Many folks do take advantage of professional development events when soliciting a peer review of their works, most notably academic papers and outlines for a soon to be published text. In my experience, this is unavoidable and actually often encouraged because it builds new networks and does promote the sharing of ideas. If you approach it that way, it is a bit more palatable.

Yours in learning,

Theresa Schmitt

It could be the best method for professional development

I enjoy surfing the professional forums for ideas. It can be a powerful tool.

How would you document Social Media as professional development? Accreditors often require some type of proof that the professional development activity actually happened?
