My students can't learn properly without smart phones

Most of my classes I teach, web design & App Design, need smart phones to understand the ways of Apps in order to design correctly for them, and to see how a web site works on a desktop browser compared to a smart phone.

Gary,

Fantastic feedback, thank you for sharing. Yes, in your field of study cell phone usage is a requirement. I find students with access to an array of delivery formats in the learning environment, such as iPads, android devices, and desktop computers and laptops with an array of browsers and plug-ins, are better equipped when entering the workforce; strong troubleshooting skills are essential in web design and app development.

Wishing you continued success in the classroom.

Cell phones are an excellent source for information.

Case in point:  Several years ago during my hiatus from proprietary education I was a sub in an elementary school.  A sixth grade class had just returned from lunch when a student called another student a diphthong.  I asked the student, "Do you know what a diphthong is," "No, but he is one."  I pulled out my phone and looked up the meaning of the word for the young lad.

Boundaries need to be set in order to have an enjoyable experience with the cell phones.  They sure beat having to walk five blocks to the library as a kid to find out the answer.  In addition, I had my students add an app for Unbrako socket head cap screws to look up information for a  CADD project they were working on.
