Why is it important to fully understand the guidelines and policies of your institution's acceptable use policy (AUP)?

Taisa,

Good question. You want to be sure your institute does not have a policy forbidding fraternization with students via social media outlets. It is quite common for schools to have strict policies regarding "friending" current students Facebook.

Wishing you continued success in the classroom.

Before starting to teach a class, you must be familiar with with rules and regulation in order to implentation.

It is important to being in complaince with any policies a company sets forth. In addition, it protects the student and the faculty

It is also important to understand any limitations your school has on technology.

Some schools restrict access to certain websites based on content. A website about "drugs" might get flagged even though it could be very useful to students in the medical or legal fields.

Finally, you need to know the school's technology capabilities. Do the computers have the needed memory, software, plug-ins, etc? Does the school's internet have the necessary bandwidth to support 5 classrooms of students playing simulations or viewing videos at the same time?

As stated before you should be aware of the limitations and reasons for them. Our school does not allow recording devices except in certain situations. Students that record often do not stay tuned in to a lecture and then miss the opportunity to ask questions or understand the answers to questions. They review their material before the test/quiz and they no longer have the benefit of the instructor to help with the material.

Understanding the company technology usage policies, and complying with, in the classroom helps lead to a consistent messages being sent from one classroom to the next. If technology were to be used heavily in one, outside of company policy, students would go to their next classroom with the same expectation and may be disappointed – which would be a difficult obstacle for some to overcome.
