Comment on Lisa Kernaghan's post: By assuring the student has clear and consise instructions they feel secure and being sure to avoid making the student feel uncomfortable and consider pairing them up if in a setting for questions and class activities.

Setting clear expectations for adult learners is important for their success in the course.

Making sure that i am clear with my expectations for the class regarding attendance, participation, GPA, and skills assessments. Also making sure they understand what their schedule will look like so they know what to expect, how the class will be run most of the time.

Understanding class policies would make me feel more secure. Knowing the attendance, test make-up, extra credit, etc. policies would help me to understand where there might be some wiggle room and where policies are finite.

Making sure you are meeting all the needs of adult students is very important to keeping them motivated and feeling secure in your class. Do everything you can to reduce your students anxiety.

Give clear guidelines and expectations so the students know what they will need to prepare for.

Providing the correct information at the begining of a course will help the students to feel secure and displaying confidence in your subject as well as the student's ability to succeed will add to that security.

I think I need to be more specific when addressing my group. Often times I will plan a group activity and a specific student always blurts out the answers without giving anyone a chance to respond. I think if I name specific students to try and formulate a response, it will allow everyone to participate.

Giving the students a structured expectation for class every day helps them feel secure and keeps the students motivated.

There are different methods that make adult students feel more secure. Security is a component of motivation.

Awareness and knowing what to expect the first day of class is very crucial
