The Road to Success

Upon reading this chapter, I came across 'Tell students what they need to do to succeed in your course,' I have gone as far as highlighting different topics in their book, and they still don't grasp the information. I have tried working one on one with particular students and they don't get it, what do I do????

Hi Macy,
A good question and one that many educators wrestle with. Before making an suggestions I would like to know have some additional information concerning how they don't seem to "get it". Do they have their career goals in mind? Do they see the value if the course you are teaching in their career goals? Is it one lesson or all the lessons they don't seem to focus on or get? Any help on this would be appreciated.

Hi Macy,

I'm not sure if this applies, but having points assigned to specific task/objectives may help. A lot of times students get more concerned/motivated about understanding concepts/meeting objectives when they know NOT doing so will adversely affect their grade.
