In a technical institute it seems that my age group is fresh out of high school or 35+, no middle. what experience do some of you have in this respect?

Hi Jesse,
Sounds like the profile of my students. I do a lot of group work where I have mixed together the different age groups. This way each age group can benefit from the other in terms of what they bring to the learning environment. I have found the key to instructional success and student satisfaction to understanding and respect for every member of the class. I model this and provide opportunities for the students to demonstrate it themselves.
