Language for student's attention

I enjoyed the part about phrases that increase learning. The facilitator using the words.."This part you will find exciting, This will be easy for you, There are only right answers," is a positive way to get students attention. I will start using this method immediately.

I hadn't really thought about it until I read the material. Even the smallest, most innocent sounding word can cause students to lose interest or to tune-out completely.

I'm going to make a conscious effort to use these language guidelines in my classes.

I had the same reaction to the material and agree. I had not thought about how some of the simple words you use can make a student hear something very different than what you expect. I will also try to make an effort to remember to use the positive examples presented.

Hi Susan!

It's important for instructors to stay positive and provide positive reenforcement for students. We all have our own personal lives, but we need to leave those outside of the classroom.

It's great to have reminders such as the ones in this forum.

Keep up the good work!
